Designer Energy is an Israeli biotechnology company involved in developing a set of technologies in the cellulosic biofuels and bio-based chemical fields. The company has established novel production technology for production of bacterial-based enzyme cocktail in order to facilitate cellulose degradation into fermentable sugars. The company actively collaborates with industrial partners and academic groups in Israel and overseas.

Co-founder and the present CTO of Designer Energy.

 

Education: Dr. Morag has over twenty-five years of experience in cellulosic enzymology having received his Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. Raphael Lamed from the Tel Aviv University and completing a post-doctoral under Prof. Meir Wilchek and Prof. Ed Bayer at the Weizmann Institute of Science. Dr. Morag was formerly a project leader at ProChon Biotech, an Israeli company involved in discovery and development of innovative growth factor-based therapies, and a director at Shiloov Biotechnology, an Israeli company involved in rapid analysis of blood-transmitted viral diseases. Dr. Morag was a co-founder and consultant at Yamit Biotechnology Ltd, a company developing a natural treatment for mastitis, which is the most common disease afflicting dairy herds.

 

Interests: Dr. Morag  is an expert in the field of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Biotechnology, specializing in affinity chromatography and cellulose-degrading enzymes.

 

Role in CellulosomePlus: Dr. Morag will be responsible for WP-5, the development of a high throughput screen for cellulase and hemicellulase enzymes. Moreover in WP-2 Dr. Morag and DesEn will be in charge of the Protein Core facility (PCF), the main group of the consortium that will clone, express, purify and characterize the enzymes and proteins common to the project.
